Hotel Transylvania: A film review

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - Being completely honest, I grew up rather sheltered in terms of my exposure to Halloween or horror monsters. I do, however, remember my father accidentally recording a 1980s Dracula film on a VHS at work, when he had meant to record some Disney shorts for us kids growing up. I can't recall which Dracula film it was, but after having watched it a few times as a six-year old, my parents finally discovered it and promptly did away with it. Even today, I've never been much of one for horror films, but more recently, I've been growing more curious about exploring the back stories to some of the most famous horror villains like Dracula, Frankenstein, and so forth. Hotel Transylvania looked rather amusing when I first heard about it coming out, and in the spirit of the Halloween season, I decided to give it a look.

The Five Worst Movies Ever Seen By Doug Ferguson

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - Quite a few months ago, fellow Sour Grapes writer, Steve Ferguson, wrote a list of the five worst movies he's ever seen. Now, I've seen a whole lot of bad movies in my time, probably more than the average person because most people are smart enough to stumble upon bad movies by accident. I tend to seek them out and make a fun habit out of mocking them. There are bad movies that work in a strange way because they're fun and cheesy. It can be great watching a film maker try so hard and fail... or try so hard to fail. But sometimes... sometimes the experience of watching a movie can just be so painful that you wish you did something way more productive with your time.  I mean, why would you watch a movie that bad when the bathtub needs a good scrubbing?

Jack & Jill: A film review

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - As an 11-year old, Happy Gilmore was among the funniest films that I had ever seen. It was my first introduction to Adam Sandler, which solified him as one of my favourite actors in my pre-teen years, but that probably isn't surprising. Sandler's brand of comedy has changed much since then, though he has made several courageous moves such as Punch Drunk Love. When I heard how awfully Sandler's latest, Jack & Jill, was doing with the critics, I felt like I really must see what the fuss was about it, or if it was even as bad as people were saying.

Zookeeper: A film review

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - Ever since Homeward Bound, which I foolishly watched far too many times as a child, I've personally loathed any film that has made the imbecilic choice of giving live animals human voices. I get it, kids supposedly love this stuff, but it has been very rare that it has been pulled off in an effective or timeless manner. Thus when I saw the initial trailers for Zookeeper, I had no interest in seeing the film, not even reviewing it for free. However, a new trailer premiered showcasing that maybe Zookeeper was not just another film with talking animals but something with heart and amusing situational comedy.
