Ink: A film review

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - Independent film making is a difficult venture. There are many challenges a film maker comes across when he or she wants to make a movie with a very little budget. So, when one comes across a feature film that is as ambitious as Ink, but with little to no budget, one has to at least admire that they managed to finish the project. Ink has gotten a fair bit of recognition since it started to make the festival circuit in 2009 and I watched it while I was in the United States on vacation. I suddenly had the American Netflix and as such, access to tons more movies than I'm usually have in Canada (sorry Canada.) I watched the film and had mixed feelings about the movie as a whole.

Apollo 18: A film review

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - After the success of 2009's Paranormal Activity, which was made for a mere $15,000 and went on to gross over $107 million domestically, there seemed to develop an appetite for low-budget horror or thriller films among film studios. Paranormal Activity proved that a film could be a success in today's age without A-list stars attached or expensive special effects. I saw Paranormal Activity on an airplane ride from France to Canada and it was rather creepy, considering the entire airplane was dark during my red-eye flight, but ultimately, it was not really my type of movie. I recently had the chance to catch a screening of Apollo 18, which was made for a paltry $5 million. While still far more than the $15,000 that Paranormal Activity, it is still rather cheap in mainstream Hollywood terms.
