- Vancouver, British Columbia - Timothy Dalton has had a mixed reception as Bond in hindsight, but it’s worth noting that he had been courted as Bond for many years and fresh blood was desperately needed in the series. And when this film came out, the boost was there. It was both a critical and financial success. I think what’s unfortunate is that Dalton only had two outings on Bond, and wasn’t given time to really flesh out the character in his way, certainly not as Sean Connery or Roger Moore did.
