From Matron to Mannequin: Today's Evolving Feminine Ideal

 - Vancouver, British Columbia - It has become increasingly apparent to me that we live in a world that increasingly praises women primarily for their sexuality. Perhaps not on the actual act of sexual intercourse itself, as that can often invoke such derogatory terms as "whore" and "slut" to be leveled against such a woman who engages in such behaviour with a variety of men, but instead, the appearance or the illusion of being sexy is deemed praiseworthy. As a society, we seem to want our women to be sexually appealing, but not actually be sexually active. There are roots to this which can initially be traced to a historical "obligation" that has been placed upon women that they must strive to be beautiful, but it has deteriorated into something more unsettling.
